Techniques & Information
Actualizing Intuition
Massage therapy is an art and a science. It has both
technical and intuitive aspects. Actualizing
Intuition is included in a number of the courses in
massage therapy/ Bodywork and is designed to assist
students in accessing and actualizing their
intuition and relation to hands-on work. Metaphors
and processes are designed to allow students to
experience their own intuition and creativity. The
object is to create balance between the technical
and intuitive approaches to the body work.
Contradictions
Information is given to students about when is it
inappropriate to administer bodywork. Contradictions
are included the pathology portion of the anatomy
course and in the massage therapy courser as part of
the training for specific techniques and modalities.
Massage at Law
Students receive a general knowledge of professional
certification laws in California . Scope of
practice, malpractice, and general civil and
criminal liability are also taught.
Passive Movement
This is a hands-on technique used in conjunction
with massage therapy. It consists of very slow
movements of the head and limbs. Passive movement
enhances awareness, helps relax clients, and creates
an experience of letting go of chronic holding
patterns.
Passive Stretching
A series of stretches administer by the massage
therapist during a session of bodywork, especially
effective with the major muscle groups of the legs
and often used with post-event, post workout, and
remedial sports massage.
Postural Alignment
This is an educational process taught for the
purpose of giving the recipient a sense of balance,
length, integration, and economy of movement.
Practitioner’s Well-Being
Information, feedback, and coaching are given to the
students concerning posture, holding patterns,
breathing, hand and body positioning, and overall
well-being. This information is included in the
hands-on courses enabling students to maintain heath
and gain energy from the work.
Professional Ethics
Students learn theories and supporting rationale of
ethical principal and standards that apply to the
profession of massage therapy. Redding School of
Massage has created ethical standards that support
the profession of massage therapy.
Relaxation techniques
techniques are taught which create relaxation either
before or during massage therapy. They are used to
deepen a client’s experience of the bodywork and to
give clients a way to manage stress.
Remedial Exercises
These exercises support and enhance the benefits
received from bodywork. Students learn the anatomy,
indications, and remedial effects of the exercises,
and how to use them with different modalities.
Re-patterning
An educational process designed to re-pattern
movements and holding positions that may be
contributing to tension, pain, and dysfunction.
Oftentimes when there is a structural change
resulting from bodywork , a functional reprogramming
is appropriate. This can help clients experience and
retain the benefits received from bodywork.
Swedish Massage
Includes the basic Swedish massage techniques;
effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction,
vibration, and rhythm. Students are also taught
variations of Swedish massage such as deep-friction
massage.
Wellness and Stress Management
Students learn information about wellness and stress
management for their own personal well-being, and
they learn how to integrate wellness and stress
management into their client service. |
